Education Certification Program

Education partners from across Oregon are collaborating to develop a community-informed plan for a Non-Credit Outdoor Education Certification Program

We hope that this free, open-access continuing education program will support Oregon’s students, incoming professionals and anyone who hires and contracts with outdoor educators.

Share your thoughts and expertise!

We’re seeking input from our Oregon colleagues and young people interested in the outdoor education field. Help us identify the essential competencies for success as an outdoor educator for K-12 students. Share your perspective on common skill gaps in the incoming outdoor education workforce.

Focus groups will dig into topics like:

  • What does the future of outdoor education look like?

  • What knowledge, skills, and attitudes are important for early-career environmental educators?

  • What gaps do you see in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the current workforce/candidate pool?

  • What would make the credential valuable to employers?

  • What would make the program inclusive, accessible, relevant, and responsive for learners?
     

Certification Seekers and Participants

(For those who might seek an Outdoor Education Certification)

  • Wednesday, October 14: 4:30–6 pm PT

  • Tuesday, November 3: 2:00–3:30 pm PT

  • Thursday, November 19: 4:30–6 pm PT
     

Employers and Hiring Managers

(For those who might hire or supervise someone with a Certification, OR teachers who contract with outdoor educators)

  • Thursday, October 15: 2:00–3:30 pm PT

  • Monday, November 2: 4:30–6 pm PT


Education/Workforce Training Specialists

(For those with experience in workforce training, continuing education, or educator professional development)

  • Tuesday, October 27: 2:00–3:30 pm PT
